Looking for a family villa for yourself or for visiting friends?
We met the experts at Bali Family Villas

With so many families travelling to Bali each year we are always being asked which are the best villas for kids. There is now a dedicated web site specializing in beautiful Bali villas that are both practical and enjoyable for those travelling with children. The site is run by an Australian family with three boys of their own and are long-term residents of Bali. They have first hand experience about being in Bali with children and several years experience in the villa industry with a hand picked portfolio of properties based on the family friendly features. Examples are pool fence hire, interconnecting bedrooms, babysitting services, games, and suitable floor plans.

They also provide complimentary car seats for airport transfers and free baby cots and high chairs. Little guests receive a welcome gift toy on arrival and parents and kids are equally welcomed on their holiday. The team at Bali Family Villas also provides a printed guidebook with their own suggestions of activities and places to visit with kids. The villas are mainly in Canggu and Seminyak, but also Jimbaran, Uluwatu, Ubud and Sanur. They range from 2 – 8 bedrooms with prices starting at $300 per night upwards.

The most common requests from families are for enclosed living rooms, bedrooms together under the same roof and pool fences. The floor plan of so many Bali villas is open air with bedroom suites in separate pavilions. Many of the villas have cooks with a children’s’ menu. Families on holiday like the support of an agent who knows Bali well, is western and who are parents themselves.

Often family groups like to travel with another family for company or bring the cousins for special family events and celebrations. Bali Family Villas also offers accommodation solutions for large groups with side-by-side or interconnecting villas. The service is personalized as some families want to be walking distance to the beach and others are more interested in a large garden for the kids to play or a pool with a shallow section. All requests are accommodated and Bali Family Villas know the properties well, so can suggest what is best for each client.

Sip, Savor and Shop at the Sunday Market Brunch at the Sheraton

What a great formula for families! This brunch is not only delicious but it is also very original. It includes a market with stalls from artisans, local farmers and vendors and all guests go home with free groceries. For us, this was the ideal way to enjoy a leisurely Kuta-style Sunday afternoon in an open-air market setting with live music playing in the background.

The starter buffet was impressive with oysters, sashimi, sushi, cold cuts, cheeses and a wide selection of breads. Mains included Pekin duck, dimsum, Indonesian and Asian dishes, Teppanyaki, all kinds of pasta, roast chicken, Babi Guling and vegetables. The outside seafood BBQ grilled prawns, squid, crab and fish. The highlight for our children was, unsurprisingly, the chocolate fountain and all the cakes, candies and ice cream. Make a pause and have your free caricature drawn in minutes. Your kids will no doubt love the result. Activities take place such as beading, drawing or games in the kids’ corner. After this hearty brunch, we relaxed at the beach and splashed in the hotel’s pool. Open Sunday from 12 pm to 3 pm and you can book a table on the terrace with a sea view or in the spacious air-conditioned dining room. The Market Brunch is priced at IDR 333.000++ per adult and IDR 166.000++ for children ages 4 to12. This includes freshly made fruit drinks, coffee and tea. For a selection of local beers, wines and cocktails, add IDR 250.000++ and for free-flow Champagne, premium wines and spirits, add IDR 500.000. www.sheratonbalikuta.com/market-brunch

A great family day out for all those with a sweet tooth at Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran

Le Méridien Bali Jimbaran is a new family friendly hotel and you can go and spend the afternoon or the day there with your children. The price is reasonable at IDR 200 000 nett for adults and IDR100 000 nett for children. For this price you can make ample use of the swimming pool and of the J. Kids Club. The hotel is new, modern and has quality facilities. The J. Kids Club was definitely the highlight for our children because of all the games they could play. It is open every day from 8am to 7pm and it caters for children of 4 to 12 years old. It is a small paradise filled with engaging programs of cultural education, entertainment and outdoor activities to keep youngsters active and inspired.

We also tried the Bamboo Chic restaurant and we would highly recommend their nouvelle cuisine that we found succulent. To break up the afternoon we visited the Café Wala and had a gorgeous creamy ice cream. The café has a range of extremely appetizing cakes that will delight all of you with a sweet tooth. Our family simply could not resist their delicious chocolate éclairs together with a cup of Illy expresso coffee. While in Jimbaran, do not miss this opportunity to go and indulge one or two sweet treats at Café Wala. For sunset drinks with a sea view the Lounge and Sky bar offers an exhaustive list of cocktails.
