Mola-Mola are the world’s heaviest bony fish, weighing up to a massive 1,000kg, and can produce 300 million eggs. Their two long dorsal fins mean Mola-Mola can be 3.5m in height but, because they have rounded bodies, they are very narrow when seen from front or back – truly a magnificent and unparalleled spectacle to behold.
Despite their size, Mola-Mola are actually fairly difficult to locate! Therefore, every day during the “season”, between one and three of AquaMarine’s custom-made dive boats, along with fully trained dive guides head out to look for them. AquaMarine’s team have learned to be very secretive about where they find them!
Funnily enough, Mola-Mola have something in common with many of AMD-B’s female guests, they love to sunbathe! These aptly named Sunfish spend up to half of their day basking in the warm sun rays near the surface of the ocean. This helps warm their bodies up after deep dives – clever creatures!
